The global fight against childhood cancer is won through collaboration. This week, we were deeply honoured to put that principle into practice as we welcomed Dr. Nickhill Bhakta from the world-renowned St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital to our facility here in Lagos.
His visit was a powerful meeting of minds, dedicated to advancing pediatric cancer care. Dr. Bhakta was joined by a formidable team of local leaders, including Dr. Ugonna Fakile from the LUTH Pediatrics team, Mr. Korede Akindele, COO of our vital partners at the Dorcas Cancer Foundation, and our own esteemed Dr. Adedayo Joseph, Head of the Pediatric Oncology Team at MLCC.
Our Centre Director, Dr. Lilian Ekpo, warmly received the delegation, leading a comprehensive tour of our state-of-the-art centre. The visit highlighted the incredible work being done on the ground and fostered a rich exchange of ideas.
The tour culminated in a compelling presentation by Dr. Funmilayo Fagbemide, Resident Doctor and Coordinator of our Pediatric Multidisciplinary Team Meetings. She shared valuable insights into our team’s dedicated work and our progress in pediatric oncology here at MLCC.
Visits like this are more than just a formality; they are the seeds of future breakthroughs. The opportunity to share knowledge with global leaders like Dr. Bhakta strengthens our resolve and opens new avenues for improving outcomes for children with cancer. We are immensely excited about the future possibilities this collaboration holds.
